First Wagoner County Women in Agriculture meeting on Nov. 5

WAGONER, Okla. – Individuals interested in joining the Wagoner County Women in Agriculture organization should register now to attend the group’s first meeting on Nov. 5 at the Wagoner Civic Center.

The Wagoner County Women in Agriculture organization developed out of earlier county successes related to “Annie’s Project,” which provided meetings devoted to helping farm women with an interest in business and agricultural networking to manage information used in making critical decisions.

“Joining the county’s Women in Agriculture organization is a good way to stay updated on many key topics affecting the lives of our families and communities,” said Alan Parnell, Wagoner County Extension director. “It should be both fun and educational, and hopefully will spur discussions and future activities that could make a positive difference in people’s lives.”

A free dinner will be made available to participants at 6:30 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m., which will feature three speakers who will share insights on healthcare reform.

“Given the widespread interest in healthcare reform, it seemed like a strong initial topic,” Parnell said. “Be aware that we’re asking participants to pre-register no later than Oct. 30 to ensure we have sufficient meals and materials on hand.”

To pre-register, contact the Wagoner County Extension Office at 918-486-4589. The Wagoner Civic Center is located at 301 S. Grant Ave. in Wagoner, just south of Highway 51 which runs along Cherokee Street.

Parnell credits county residents Amy Replogle, Karla Roberts, Brenda Hall and Shelly Cooper as being instrumental in creating the Wagoner County Women in Agriculture organization.

“I can’t say enough positive things about their collective leadership and contributions,” he said.
