The first step of a successful proposal begins with identifying and matching a sponsor interested in funding your research. The pursuit for an appropriate sponsor is time-consuming but rewarding. Funding opportunity websites should be visited often since interests, guidelines, and deadlines can change frequently. Also, it is prudent for PIs to take advantage of automatic alerts when offered by a sponsor’s site and to register for funding announcements. Grants.gov is one commonly used website that offers broad-based, funding opportunity searches with links and alerts.
Ag Sponsored Programs distributes funding opportunities on a regular basis via a listserv.
