More Updates on Proposal Procedures - Grants.gov

DASNR Faculty and Staff:
As you may be aware, most of the USDA CSREES funding programs, including the NRI, will require that the proposal be submitted electronically on Grants.gov this year. (Most federal agencies will be moving to this in the near future.) The following are some of the items you will need to consider when completing a proposal on Grants.gov:
· You (the faculty / PI) do NOT need to be registered in Grants.gov in order to search for funding and to access and download the application package. OSU is already registered as an institution, and I am registered as an AOR to submit the proposals electronically.
· You will be required to download the PureEdge Viewer to use Grants.gov. However, it is available at Grants.gov and very easy to download.
· You will follow the same, standard routing procedures for OSU, printing and routing the hard copy. At the same time, or shortly thereafter, you will email your application package to me. Once the routing/approvals are completed, I will submit the application.
· Grants.gov application packages require several documents to be attached. The documents MUST be in pdf (portable document format). Therefore, you will need to have the capacity to save your files in pdf.
· Electronic submissions are NOT faster. To the contrary, they can often take longer, especially if there is any error in the application or if the electronic system is very busy at deadline times. You should allow a few extra days, and plan to submit ahead of the deadline. This will allow time to correct any problems and still meet the submission deadline.
Other NRI specific items to consider:
· Letters of Intent are now required for 11 of the NRI programs check the RFA for the specific programs and deadlines. Without this letter of intent and prior approval by the National Program Leader, you will NOT be able to submit an application.
· Investigators will be required to attend annual investigator meeting to report progress. These travel costs should be included in the budget.
· Certain NRI funding depends on the states eligibility for EPSCoR funding. Oklahoma IS eligible as an EPSCoR state.
· Equipment grants are limited to institutions that are not among the most successful in receiving federal funding. Oklahoma State University IS eligible to apply for the equipment grants.
· The full RFA with program deadlines is available at: http://www.csrees.usda.gov/funding/rfas/nri_rfa.html
