The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide seed money for research by junior faculty at Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities. In 2004, 60 applications were received and 25 awards were made.

The Guidelines can be found at http://www.orau.org/academic/financial/Powe.htm, and the application form and instructions can be found at http://www.orau.org/academic/financial/Poweinstruc.htm.

Eligibility: Full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment (2/4/03 through 2/4/05) at the time of application are eligible.

Technical areas: The research project must be in one of the following five disciplines:

  • Engineering and Applied Science
  • Life Science
  • Mathematics/Computer Sciences
  • Physical Sciences
  • Policy, Management, or Education
  • Submissions are limited to two per university. Individuals wanting to be considered for OSU's two nominations must submit the following materials by 5 p.m, Friday, January 7, to Jennifer Gallagher, University Research Services (gallagh@okstate.edu) via e-mail attachment:

    1. a completed application form (saved as an html document - instructions on website)

    2. a one-page resume in Word with a second page listing publications and/or presentations

    3. a two-page description of the proposed research in Word (see instructions for specifics), including a budget justification

    4. a list of grants in force and proposals pending

In addition, a letter of support for each applicant must be submitted by the applicant's department head. If more than one individual from a department applies, the head must prioritize the applicants. Letters of support and prioritized lists are also due by 5 p.m., January 7, to Jennifer Gallagher (gallagh@okstate.edu) via e-mail attachment.

As the guidelines note, all final applications to ORAU must be made electronically by close of business on 2/5/05.

Please see that this information is forwarded to all who might be interested.

If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Gallagher at 744-9989 or Kay Ellis at 744-9995.
