Concert series begins May 6 at The Botanic Garden at OSU

STILLWATER, Okla. – For those Stillwater-area residents who like to combine great music with beautiful surroundings, the wait is almost over. Back by popular demand, the concert series at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University will kick off May 6.

The first concert of the season will feature the contemporary rock music of Austin, Texas-based Patrice Pike and her band, said Laura Payne, volunteer coordinator at The Botanic Garden at OSU.

“We’ve really excited our first concert of the series will take place on National Public Gardens Day, which occurs annually on the Friday before Mother’s Day,” Payne said. “It’s a day to promote awareness of botanic gardens, arboreta, zoos, historic gardens or any public gardens, and the educational resources public gardens provide to local communities.”

Other concert series dates to put on the calendar include Tyrel Draper on June 3, OSU Jazz Band on Sept. 9 and Tyler Siems on Oct. 7. All concerts take place from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Payne said families are encouraged to bring a picnic supper and chairs or a blanket when coming out to enjoy the music and the garden.

“This is a fun and relaxing way to kick off your weekend and people of all ages are encouraged to come out and spend a couple of hours at The Botanic Garden at OSU,” she said.

Payne said the concert series at The Botanic Garden at OSU began in fall 2013 and has continued to be a popular community event.

“The concert series is just one of the many different events we host at the garden as a way to encourage the public to come experience the beauty of the area,” she said. “It’s also a great way to connect the community to OSU.”

The concert series would not be possible without the generous support of Stillwater businesses, including Hideaway Pizza, Kicker, Daddy O’s Music, the OSU Office of the President and the Arts and Humanities Council of Stillwater.

“All of the concerts in the series are free, but donations are greatly appreciated to help us continue to offer fun and entertaining opportunities at The Botanic Garden at OSU,” Payne said. “Make plans to come out and enjoy the garden. I love seeing people enjoy the magic of this place.”

In the event of rain, all of the concerts will take place at the Sheer Cultural and Heritage Center, located at 702 S. Duck St., in Stillwater.

The Botanic Garden at OSU is located west of Stillwater on the north side of highway 51. For more information, please visit http://botanicgarden.okstate.edu/.
