Enhancing the Adoption of Organic Farming

Oklahoma State University, in collaboration with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, invites you to attend a two-day workshop on Enhancing the Adoption of Organic Farming in Oklahoma. This workshop will present science-based information that covers basic production concepts and techniques as well as information on acts, certification rules, and marketing of organic products in Oklahoma.

The objectives of the workshop are to:

·         familiarize participants about Oklahoma’s organic food production acts and rules

·         educate participants about basic concepts and organic techniques for building soil quality, management of insect pests, weeds and diseases, cultural practices, planting materials and marketing

·         familiarize participants with steps required for certification and bookkeeping

 Target Audience

·         Extension Educators

·         Transitioning producers

·         Conventional farmers wishing to consider organic production

·         Other public and private sector professionals working with organic or transitioning farmers

 Workshop Dates and Location

 ·         Tuesday and Wednesday, October 14th  and 15th, 2008

·         Agriculture Technology facility, Oklahoma State University/Oklahoma City

 Registration

Registration deadline will be August 14, 2008. Registration fee will be $35 per person if registered by the deadline. It will be $45 past the deadline. The fee will be used to cover the cost of lunch and refreshments for both days. Registration will be available through Ag Conferencing Services and with the In-Service Education Office of Staff and Program Development (CEUs) beginning in June.  The SARE PDP will cover the registration fee of Extension educators; so please identify yourself when registering with ACS. Extension Educators are responsible for the extra charge if registered after the deadline. For those entitled to earn CEU credits, make sure you register for the conference with ACS and for your CEUs with OCES. We encourage early registration since space is limited.
