To configure Microsoft Outlook 2003 for off campus use with the Exchange server you'll need to create a Profile.  If you already have a profile, you may want to just add an account to that profile.  If VPN has been installed on your computer see the instructions for VPN removal and re-configuration of Outlook.

Click Start / Control Panel.  Depending on the layout of your Control Panel either click on the icon Mail or click on the User Accounts icon (only if Mail icon doesn't appear) and then click Mail in the window that opens.

In the Mail Setup - Outlook window (shown right) click the button that says "Show Profiles".  If there are no profiles listed, you'll need to click "Add".  If there is a profile that you'd like to use, click it once and click the button "Properties".

In the window that appears, click the button "E-mail Accounts".

"Add a New E-mail Account" should have a green dot beside it.  Press Next

Place a green dot beside "Microsoft Exchange Server", press Next.

In the E-mail Accounts window type "EXE2.ad.okstate.edu" and in the User name box type your e-mail address.

Press the button that says "More Settings"

There may be a long pause at this time, followed by a window that says the command could not be completed.  This is normal.  Press Cancel and continue to the Microsoft Exchange Server window and the next step as shown below.

Alternatively, you may be presented with a box asking for your username and password.  Enter your e-mail address (if not already present) and your OKEY password and press OK.  Continue to the Microsoft Exchange Server window as shown below.

Click on the Security tab, place a check in the top box only under "Encryption".

On the Connection tab

place a check in the box at the bottom of the window by "Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP".

Click on the button "Exchange Proxy Settings..."

In the Exchange Proxy Settings window, complete the following information:

In the top box enter "mail.okstate.edu"

Place a check beside "Mutually authenticate the session..." and in the box that becomes available below enter "msstd:mail.okstate.edu"

Place a check beside "On fast networks, connect..."

Press OK to close the Exchange Proxy Settings Window, then Next and Finish to close the E-mail Account configuration window.  You should now be returned to the Mail Setup window for the profile you've configured.  Press OK and OK to close out of all E-mail configuration windows.  Congratulations!  You've configured Outlook.

Note:  If you used a new profile, you're all done.  If you used a profile that already existed, you've got one more step to do to ensure that you can still access your E-mail and other items from the web, from your office, or from home.

Final Steps:
From the Profile window, Click on the "Properties" button and the "E-mail Accounts" button.

Choose "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and press Next.

In the E-mail Accounts window you need to ensure that the drop down box below "Deliver new e-mail to the following location" has selected "Mailbox - lastname, firstname".  If Personal Folders is selected, your mail will be removed from the server and will only be viewable from your computer.  This would also mean that if your computer crashed your e-mail may be lost.
