Woodland Management Workshop slated Sept. 24

STILLWATER, Okla. – Grasslands and prairie are typically thought of when considering Oklahoma landscapes. However, woodland and forest owners’ minds may go in a different direction.

To address some of the questions in their minds and talk all things woodlands, the Oklahoma Forestry Association is partnering with Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Forestry Services to host a meeting.

The OFA annual meeting will feature discussions on the leasing of land for energy, forest stewardship, genetically modified organisms and some legislative updates.

“The meeting is centered around current and future issues that Oklahoma woodland owners will be faced with in their property management objectives,” said Craig McKinley, retired OSU Cooperative Extension forestry specialist and member of the OFA Board of Directors. “We hope both members and nonmembers attend the meeting as there will be information pertinent to everyone.”

Slated Sept. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the meeting will be at the Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park. The location can be found by turning east off highway 259 onto highway 259A, which is 6.1 miles north of Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

The workshop includes a field trip to a Pine Integrated Network: Education, Mitigation and Adaptation Project site near Broken Bow.

A $15 registration fee for OFA members and their spouses ($20 for nonmembers) will provide coffee, doughnuts, soft drinks, water, cookies and a catered meal for lunch. The group will meet in the Cedar/Cypress room toward the back of the building.

RSVP to Glenda Friend, OFA member, at 580-286-5175.
