Gardening author to give seminar at Edmon Low Library at OSU

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University’s Department of Botany is partnering with The Botanic Garden at OSU to host the annual Botany-Library seminar “Plants, People and Beyond.”

Slated March 28 at 3 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room at the Edmon Low Library on the OSU campus, the seminar will feature keynote speaker and author Joseph Tychonievich presenting “Plant Breeding for the Home Gardener.” A book signing will follow at 4:30 p.m.

Other co-sponsors include the Oklahoma Native Plant Society (ONPS) – Crosstimbers Chapter, Edmon Low Library, OSU Bookstore and the OSU Botanical Society.

In addition, the ONPS is hosting a potluck dinner at 6:15 p.m. in the Educational Building at The Botanic Garden at OSU. Following the dinner, Tychonievich will present “Why Hummingbirds Like Red Flowers: Plants, Pollinators, and Why They Matter.”

Tychonievich lives in Michigan and works at Arrowhead Alpines Rare Plants Nursery where he writes about gardening. He also produces the gardening podcast “Grow ALL the Plants!” He earned his bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Ohio State University.

Kim Toscano, host of Oklahoma Gardening, said she is excited to be partnering with other groups on this event.

“This is a great opportunity for the public to meet a gardening author and ask questions,” Toscano said. “We’re glad the ONPS is hosting the potluck dinner at The Botanic Garden at OSU. We have so much to offer out there and we love for people to come out and see the gardens.”
